Lawn Mowers

The lawns of our Luton Bungalow
Didn’t need that much to mow.

We had a mower you pushed your self
Mowing the lawn gave you good health.

Later on we moved up higher.
Got a mower with a wire.

A green thing with a catchy slogan
( probably voiced by Terry Wogan)

It’s a lot less bother than a hover
According to me dad
They forgot to add
It’s dire if you mow the wire.

Times past and I’ve moved out
Got a bigger garden now
So a mower’s needed with more clout.

A petrol mower!

As I poured the petrol in
A funny feeling grew within
I felt uncomfortably grown up
It stayed as I read how to start it up.

Pull this, hold that, tug this, to get it going
It was nearly an hour ‘till I started mowing

So as I stood there cutting grass
I felt I’d joined the middle class

I really hopped for lots more fuss
You know a procession on an open topped bus.
An honour guard of fellow mowers
Petrol cans held aloft in gardeny salute
Gently revving Jerusalem in 2 stroke, four part harmony.

What I got was a pigeon staring at me.

Inspiration

Why? Fairly obvious I’d of thought.

Imagine if I ever buy a sit on mower
